Columbus Day is celebrated across the Americas on October 12, the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival to the New World. The holiday is celebrated as it is a national holiday across many of the countries of the Americas in addition to a federal time in the United States.

Martin Luther King Jr. day

Every year on the third Monday in the month of January Americans celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, one of the national holidays in the honor his civil rights leader and activist. Born 1929 in the United States, King played a pivotal role as an activist for racial justice and nonviolent civil non-violence. King also campaigned against the legalization of segregation and was the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Today, we are encouraged to reflect on his legacy and the values he stood for, including the non-violent approach and the principle of racial justice.

Thanksgiving

A Thanksgiving day was initially observed by the natives and colonists New England in the early eighteenth century, and was an opportunity to pray and celebration of the blessings that the nation has received. In 1777, an act of U.S. Continental Congress proclaimed that it was a national holiday but left the actual declaring of the holiday to the states to decide after that. That's why Southerners were slow to take on this custom and some were even opposed to the day being used for parades and speeches by partisans.

The Christmas holiday is a time where people commemorate Jesus' birth Christ. The Christmas celebrations include the giving of gifts to family and friends. The tradition of giving gifts began in the fifteenth century. The gifts are a symbol of gratitude for God's generosity in the birth of Jesus to mankind. A poem written by Clement Moore in 1822, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," is a powerful religious significance. Saint Nicholas is also linked to the Christmas holiday. There was an episcopal presiding bishop from the first Christian church in Asia Minor, who left presents for children along with gold in the stockings of children.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is the national celebration of the United States and Canada. It is also celebrated across Saint Lucia, Grenada and Liberia. It was originally an opportunity to show gratitude to the previous year's harvest. Similar celebrations of the festival are held on the other side of Japan in Japan and Germany.
