New Year's Day is one many of the biggest events of this year. Celebrations are observed all over the globe. Certain cities host large parades that draw the attention of people across the nation. If you're looking to celebrate either with family or friends there is an New Year's Day celebration that is certain to meet your taste.

Columbus Day

Columbus Day is celebrated across the Americas on October 12 to mark the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival into the New World. It is observed as a national holiday in many of the countries of Americas and as a national time in the United States.

Martin Luther King Jr. day

Every year, on the third Monday of the month of January Americans mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as a national holiday, in memory of the civil rights leader and activist. His birth year was 1929. King was a powerful proponent of equality between races and nonviolent civil non-violence. King also fought against legal segregation and was an official Nobel Peace Prize laureate. On this day, the public are encouraged to think about his legacy and the ideals he advocated, including peaceful coexistence and equality between races.

Thanksgiving

An early Thanksgiving festival was held by the people of the colony of New England in the early 18th century. It was seen as a day of worship and thanksgiving for the nation's blessings. In 1777 it was the year that U.S. Continental Congress proclaimed it as a national holiday but it was left to the actual declaration of the holiday up to States after that. Thus, Southerners were not quick to embrace this tradition, and some even objected to the celebration being used for partisan speeches and parades.

The Christmas season is the time when people commemorate Christmas and the birth of Christ. Christmas is a time for celebrations and the giving of gifts to family and friends. Tradition of giving gifts dates back to the fifteenth century. In addition, gifts symbolize gratitude for the offering of Jesus to mankind. A poem written by Clement Moore in 1822, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," has a significant connection to religion. Saint Nicholas is also linked to the Christmas season. His name is a reference to a bishop from the first Christian church in Asia Minor, who left presents for children along with gold ornaments in stockings.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is the national holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada. It is also observed across Saint Lucia, Grenada and Liberia. It was originally it was a day to celebrate giving thanks to the previous year's harvest. Similar festivals are observed on the other side of Japan also Germany.
