The tradition of giving gifts dates back to the fifteenth century. Furthermore, gifts are a symbol of gratitude for God's giving of Jesus to humanity. A poem written by Clement Moore in 1822, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," has a deep connection to religion. Saint Nicholas is also associated with the Christmas season.
